With a 5″ screen you will be immediately wowed how big it is, (assuming you don’t own a GNote) its feels solid, and heavy, the front side is so generic, a earcpiece, vga camera, light sensor, proximity sensor, capacitive touch buttons; home, menu and back, and a mic hole.
On the right side, a volume, on top a micro USB and 3.5mm and nothing on the left side, at the back, a 5MP camera with singel LED flash and the speaker grill.
Run with Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.04 powered by Mediatek MT6577 a dual core and 512MB Ram, with PowerVR SGX531 GPU Its quite fast, can run HD games like Dead Trigger, and it scores quite good in benchmarking tools. It has also a 5-point multi-touch capability.
5.0″ capacitive touch panel (800 x 480), well I’m quite unimpressed on this area, being a 5 incher, 800×480 with just 186.59 ppi is quite low, the color is washout, pixelation is really evident, if you are coming from IPS display phones, you will not be impressed with this one , and what more I found out is, its digitizer or touch panel is somehow visible without the screen protector, I’m not a fan of screen protector, so I peeled it out, only to find out there are “dots” across its screen! They are visible when the screen is OFF, and can be seen also when the screen is ON but barely noticeable. I can’t replicate it now, but I found some phones on the internet that has the same characteristics too, example below:
From what I researched, this is completely normal, all LCD touch panels have this, but unfortunately because Titan used a low resolution screen 480×800 and its only a MVA Panel, thus resulting to this unwanted characteristics. So if you’re a screen addict and strict when it comes to screen quality, CM Titan is not for you! Specially when you’re come from using IPS or Retina screen, don’t expect Titan to match them, side by side, you can tell immediately the difference, From being washout, colors not really vivid even it is already set to color mode. But what I like is, this phone has a “Exact” feature of the screen that you can use to increase the sensitivity of the phone, a very good feature when your hobby is sketching.
Nonetheless, from a price perspective, a 5″ screen phablet with only a given price of 6,500.00, with all those decent specs this is still too good to be true.
Sound Output is great, nothing bad I can comment here , its loud, clear and crisp. From the loudspeaker to the headphone jack, sound is good, use all kinds of headphones, no bugs, no hissing, no intermittent issues.
Equipped with Dual camera, a 5MP, single LED flash on the back that capable of taking 720p videos, and a VGA front cam enough to use on video calls like Skype and I’m quite impressed It can be also use on “Face Unlock” feature of ICS and can recognize a face instantly! Still pictures are quite good, but suffers on low light situation. Auto-focus is not that good, sometimes it can’t focus correctly to subject, it requires some touch to manually focus the subject.
With its dual-sim, dual-standby capability, its like having two phones in one, surely you will not miss a call or text from your friends and love ones. This dual Sim phone can have 3G connectivity on both Sims! unlike other phones like Flare, that only one Sim can have a 3G connection, a WIFI b/g/n that can connect you instantly, a Bluetooth, a GPS/A-GPS that you can use on Google Maps. Sensors are also present, a light sensor, proximity sensor that also double as flip cover sensor, a motion sensor, sadly there’s no magnetic sensor.
Well, I think this is one of the strongest point of having this phone, a complete reversal of Flare, I must say its battery is superb, equipped with 2350Mah, on average use it can take you to 3 days, on heavy use sure you can last a day but still with a battery-juice left. if you’re a traveler this is a very good companion, you will not find yourself always looking for that electrical outlet.
A given price of only Php 6,499.00, with all these specs, I must say, I could not ask for more, a Php6,500.00 Phablet!? No way! but here it is, Cherry Mobile Titan, lives to its promise. The more I use this Phone, the more I love it, after all this year 2013 is anticipated to be the year of the Phablets. I highly recommend this phone.
